Abstract

The present study aimed to investigate the potential impacts of fenugreek leaves, seeds and their aqueous extracts as natural anti-acidity agents on the experimental rats.
Forty male rats weighing between (160±10 g) were randomly distributed into eight groups as follows: 1st: basal diet (negative control),2nd: basal diet mixed with 15% white bread powder (positive control),3rd: basal diet mixed with 15% white bread powder + 5 % of fenugreek leaves powder,4th: basal diet mixed with 15% white bread powder + 10% of fenugreek leaves powder,5th: basal diet mixed with 15% white bread powder+5% of fenugreek seeds powder,6rd: basal diet mixed with 15% white bread powder + 5 % of fenugreek seeds powder,7th: basal diet mixed with 15% white bread powder + 1ml aqueous extractof fenugreek leaves powder and the 8th: basal diet mixed with 15% white bread +1 ml aqueous extract of fenugreek seeds.
The present work was conducted to study the following:
1-Chemical composition and nutritional value of fenugreek (leaves and seeds).
2-Effect of fenugreek (leaves, seeds and aqueous extract none concentrated as anti-acidity or to maintain acid –base balance for stomach pH and blood pH.
3-Effect of acidity on some biochemical analysis (blood PH,stomach PH,Bicarbonate, oxygen pressure,Ur,Creatinine ,uric acid ,Ca , P,MDA,TAC) in rats .
4-Effect of acidity and fenugreek (leaves, seed and extract aqueous none concentrated) on some organs (stomach, kidney, liver and bone).
Biological Evaluation
At the end of experiment (8 weeks). The rats were slaughtered and drawing samples from hepatic partial vientodeterminethe PH value of the blood and stomach by direct immersion of PH electrode in blood and gastric fluids. At room temperature using the digital meter.
Serum was separatedby centrifugationat 3000r.p.m for 10 minutes at room temperature and kept in plastic vial stored in the deep freezer at (-20ºc) until analyzed.
Histopathological examination
Specimen from (stomach, kidney, liver and bone) of rats from all group were fixed in (10%) neutral buffered formalin. For the work of histology to know the results. The histology was done at the Faculty ofVeterinary Medicine,Cairo University.
Results obtained could be summarized as follow:
1. Final weight (FW),body weight gain (BWG),feed intake (FI) and feed efficiency ratio (FER):
• The use of 5 and 10 % FL gave the best values of FW (309 and 303.4 g) and BWG (145 and 138.60 g),respectively compared to the other treatment groups and the controls.
• The positive impact of FL excelled that of FS or FSE on both final body weight and BWG.
• Increasing fenugreek seed level up to 10 % (group 6) was associated with a significant depression in body weight gain (118.60 g) in comparison to the lower FS level (5%) which caused a marked increase (P<0.05) in body weight gain (135.20 g) comparing with the controls
