Abstract

An investigation has been carried out numerically to study and compare the implementation of single- and two- phase models of water-Al2O3 nanofluid in a single and multi-impinging confined jets as one of the heat transfer enhancement methods. Numerical models using Finite Volume method (FVM) are applied to study the effect of different parameters on the flow and heat transfer characteristics. These parameters are Reynolds number (Re), the jet’s height to jet’s width ratio (H/W), the nanoparticle volume fraction (ø). Moreover, the multiple impinging jet including changing the distance between the jets are studied with considering two scenarios; one by keeping the number of jets fixed and flow leaves the jet in a perpendicular direction to the inlets (configuration A). The other scenario involves changing the number of jets’ inlets and exits while the flow leaves the jet in a direction parallel to the inlets (configuration B). Results of both configurations as well as results of single impinging jet are compared together based on the friction coefficient (Cf), Nusselt number (Nu), Pumping power (PP), and the wall temperature (Tw). Furthermore, correlations for each model is developed from the obtained data.
