Abstract

Heavy-duty vehicles play an important role in human activities like transportation and agriculture. Studying stability and control of heavy-duty vehicles is very important in different economic activities. It can help processors in making different decisions like choosing suitable vehicle to pass through certain terrain like in military activities. As studying performance of heavy-duty vehicles is complicated due to different parameters affecting its performance, modern studies trend to use software programs to simulate vehicle performance. These programs can help to overcome these difficulties and can reduce cost of designing heavy-duty vehicles as it can help designers to replace prototypes.
A theoretical study on the stability and control of heavy-duty vehicles done. The aim of the study is to define the best way of simulating the performance of heavy-duty vehicles, which can offer the ability of studying the effect of different vehicle parameters on vehicle stability and control. The study tried first to indicate the difference between different ways of vehicle-terrain interaction modelling and the precise of each way. The performance vehicle parameters investigated. The research studied the influence of vehicle parameters, which affect vehicle performance. In addition, it investigated the response of the vehicle on different terrains. The point of intention is the modelling of the terrain vehicle interaction, using software programs, which called, Trucksim. Moreover, studying the curves for performance of the vehicle produced by this program and comparing this result with practical results validated by previous researchers. Therefore, it could define the precise and reliability of this design programmes. This study indicates that the future of design heavy-duty vehicles is to use designing software’s because of their easiest, rehabilitee, and low cost comparing to making practical tests. However, researchers should use practical test to determine the data, which will used in this software programs. In addition, this software programs can used for other purposes not only design, but also it can used by military engineers when they need fast way to define the ability of the vehicle to pass through certain terrain.
The results indicated that, trucksim software programs is a good tool to simulate the vehicle terrain interaction and is a helpful tool for the designers to improve stability and control of the heavy vehicle. Further depending on this results this software program can be used in proceeded studies of influence of different parameters on vehicle performance.
