Abstract

The present work was performed to evaluate the efficacy of Angelica sinensis root extract and Origanum majorana oil on nickel chloride toxicity in albino rats. The evaluation was done by studying the changes in the hematological and biochemical parameters, lipid peroxidation and antioxidant status as well as the histopathological picture.
This study was carried out on sixty healthy male albino rats with average two months old and average body weight about 120 ± 10 g. These rats were divided into equal 6 groups as the following:
group 1: Rats were kept as a control for gps. (2-6).
group 2: Rats were given NiCl2 daily at a dose of 0.75 mg/kg b.wt.
group 3: Rats were given A. sinensis root extract daily at a dose of 300 mg/kg b.wt.
group 4: Rats were given O. majorana oil daily at a dose of 0.5 ml/kg b.wt.
group 5: Rats were given NiCl2 as gp. (2) and administered A. sinensis root extract as gp.(3).
group 6: Rats were given NiCl2 as gp. (2) and administered O. majorana essential oil as gp.(4).
All treatments were given orally by esophageal tube for 4 weeks. Blood samples were collected from the retro-orbital venous plexus after 4 weeks from starting the experiment and divided into two portions. The first portion of blood sample was collected in a clean K2-EDTA tube for performing different hematological tests.
