Abstract

Lateralization of MT and synechia formation after ESS is a common complication after ESS .These complications can be prevented with MT medialization . The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of middle turbinate-septal suturing in prevention of lateralization of MT and synechia formation after ESS. A prospective cohort study in 25 patients with CRS underwent to MT medialization (suturing methd) after ESS.All the operations were performed by the same surgeon at tanta university hospital . All the patients underwent preoperative and 3months postoperative assessment with a SNOT-22 questionnaire and endoscopic examination. Preoperative total SNOT-22 scoring ranged from 47 to78 with mean 63.76± 7.41 and 3 months postoperative scoring ranged from 33 to 53 with mean 45.84 ± 6.39.There was significant improvement (p=0.001). Endoscopic examination was performed preoperative ,2weeks and 3months postoperatively. Two weeks postoperative examination showed that there was mild adhesions and synechia to lateral nasal wall in 2 patients in one side (8%) due to parted sutures.Synechia was divided in outpatient clinic. No synechia detected 3months postoperatively. Preoperative total endoscopic scoring ranged from 3 to 8 with mean 4.68 ± 2.7 , 2weeks postoperative scoring ranged from 3 to 6 with mean 4.08±1.07 and 3 months postoperative scoring ranged from 1 to 4 with mean 1.33 ±0.25.There was significant improvement (p=0.001).
