Problem of the Research:
The problem of the current Research is represented in the low level of pupils, achievement in math and weakness in Problem - Solving Skills of of
six th grade students. So, it,s necessary to find out new strategies in learning and education which help the pupils improve their ability of achievement and Problem - Solving Skills. It,s appeared in Project Based Learning strategy which many researches have emphasied its role in using knowledge , developing achievement and solving problems.
Questions of the Research:
We can solve this problem by answering the following main question
What is the influence of using Project Based Learning on developing mathematics achievement and problem - solving Skills of six th grade students
The following questions is branched from the previous question
1- What is the influence of using Project Based Learning on developing mathematics achievement of six th grade students?
2- What is the influence of using Project Based Learning on developing problem - solving Skills of six th grade students?
Objectives of the Research:
The current Research aimed at exposing the following:
1- Using Project Based Learning on developing mathematics achievement of six th grade students?
2- Using Project Based Learning on developing problem - solving Skills of six th grade students?
The importance of research:
1- Authors of the curriculum to include strategy Project Based Learning in curricula.
2- Provide Primary math teachers with aguide book which explain strategy of Project Based Learning and some projects which are included in the curriculum.
Limitations of the Research:
The current Research limited to:
1- A group of primary six pupils.
2- Units of ”Proportion” and ”Geometry and Measurment” for Six th Grade pupils at the first term of primary six in math book because it includes subjects in which we carry out projects.
Method of the Research:
The current Research depends on using quasi-experimental approach (design experimental which teaches with Project Based Learning and controlled group which teaches traditional way) .
Variables of the Research:
Research variables included the following:
1- The independent variable: Which is Project Based Learning. .
2- The dependent variables: Which are achievement and problem - solving Skills.
Materials of the Research:
1- A teacher’s guide for the teaching of the ”Proportion” and ”Geometry and Measurment”units for Six th Grade pupil by using Project Based Learning.
2- Worksheets and activities used during carrying out projects.
Tools of the Research:
1- Test in achievement.
2- Test in problem - solving Skills.
Propositions of the Research:
In light of the results of previous studies, which were in variables field of the current study the propositions are formulated as Following:
1- There is a significant difference statistically between the mean scores of the experimental group (which studied using Project Based Learning) and degrees of controlled group members (which studied by the usual way) in the post application of achievement in favor of the experimental group.
2- There is a significant difference statistically between the mean scores of the experimental group (which studied using Project Based Learning) and degrees of controlled group members (which studied by the usual way) in the post application of problem - solving Skills in favor of the experimental group.
Procedures of the Research:
The current Research is done according to the following steps:
1- Accessing the studies dealt with the Project Based Learning, achievement and solving problems.
2- Analyzing the content of ”Proportion” and ”Geometry and Measurment”units in order to determine the concepts, the relationships, and the skills implied in it.
3- Designing Project Based Learning according to analyzing the content.
4- Preparing teacher guide for teaching ”Geometry and Measurment”units for Six th Grade pupils according to Project Based Learning .
5- Show evidence of agroup of arbitrators to give their opinions about it and verify its validity.
6- Preparing test in achievement and show it of agroup of arbitrators to give their opinions about it and verify its validity.
7- Preparing test in of problem - solving Skills and show it of agroup of arbitrators to give their opinions about it and verify its validity.
8- Choosing the sample of the study and dividing it into two groups: experimental group and controlled group.
8 - Applying of each test of previous information on two groups to make sure the equalization of the groups before experimentation.
9- Teaching for the individuals of the experimental group by using Project Based Learning and The controllative group by using the usual way.
10- Post-applying of each test of achievement and problem - solving Skills on the individuals of the two groups (experimental- controlled) after finishing the teaching of the units.
11- Preparing an appropriate statistical treatment of results, analyzing and interpreting it.
12- Providing the proposed recommendations and researches in light of the results of the study.
Results of the Research:
The Research reached to the following results:
1- There is a significant difference statistically between the mean scores of the experimental group (which studied using Project Based Learning) and degrees of controlled group members (which studied by the usual way) in the post application of achievement in favor of the experimental group.
2- There is a significant difference statistically between the mean scores of the experimental group (which studied using Project Based Learning) and degrees of controlled group members (which studied by the usual way) in the post application of problem - solving Skills in favor of the experimental group.
