Abstract

Hyperhidrosis is the perspiration beyond physiological needs of the
thermoregulatory function particularly in response to heat or emotional
stimuli. It causes psychological, social and professional embracement for
patients, with a deleterious impact on their QoL.
Hyperhidrosis may be primary or secondary to other causes.
Secondary hyperhidrosis presented by increased total body sweating,
associated with systemic diseases such as hyperthyroidism, lymphoma,
and pheochromocytomas.
PH is still of unknown etiology. It is believed to be caused by
hyper-stimulation or over-activity of the sympathetic nervous system. It
affects about 0.6 to 1% in the general population.
It affects both males and females equally, but there is a false
impression of predominance more among the females because they seek
medical advice more than males.
The sweating usually begins in childhood, but most individuals
start complaining at second or third decade of life.
The most common affected areas are the palms, feet, axilla, scalp, and
face.
