Abstract

: Ruminative thinking exacerbates depression and altered social problem solving. While, Mindfulness considered the adaptive skill that takes the individual out of rumination and prevent relapse of depression. Aim: This study aimed to explore the relation between ruminative thinking, social problems solving and mindfulness among patients with depression. Subjects and Method: A descriptive correlational research design was utilized. The study subjects consisted of 150 depressed patients from the outpatient clinic at Port-Said Psychiatric Health Hospital. Three tools were utilized to collect the data. Results: The study revealed that, there was a statistically significant negative correlation between total score of rumination, social problem solving and mindfulness. Recommendations: The study recommended that health care providers should teach patients and their family’s factor exacerbates depression and effective coping strategies to control ruminative thinking and decrease the intensity of depressive symptoms.
