Abstract

Two field experiments were carried out during two summer seasons (2017 and 2018) at the Experimental Farm of the Faculty of Agriculture, Assiut University, Assiut, to study the impact of inter and intra-planting distance in furrows on maize production. The two maize hybrids [Single Cross 128 (S.C. 128) and Triple Cross 310 (T.C. 310)] yield and its components for three inter-rows spacing (Rw1= 60 cm, Rw2= 70 cm and Rw3= 80 cm) and three intra-rows spacing (S1= 20 cm, S2= 25 cm and S3= 30 cm) were used. Experimental design was randomized complete block design (RCBD) using split-plot in strips, where inter-row spacing allocated in the main horizontally, maize hybrids were arranged in the main vertically and intra-row spacing were occupied the sub-plots.The grains of maize hybrids were sown on 28 and 26 of June in the first and second seasons, respectively. The plots area were 10.5, 12.25 and 14.0 m2 according to different in ridges distance (the plot including 5 rides of 60, 70 and 80 cm apart with 3.5 m length). The results could be summarized as the following:
I- Growth traits:1- Plant height (cm):The plant height had a significantly affected by maize hybrids in the 1st season and by row width and hill spacing in the 2nd season only. The tallest plants were recorded by hybrid T.C. 310 and row width 70 cm in the both seasons as well as by hill spacing 20 cm and 30 cm in the 1st and 2nd seasons, respectively.-The plant height had a significantly affected by HxS and HxRwxS in the 2nd season only.- The tallest plants were detected by the first and second order interaction treatments (hybrid T.C. 310 x row width 80 cm), (hybrid T.C. 310 x hill spacing 25 and 30 cm), (Row width 80 cm x 25 cm and 30 cm) and (Hybrid T.C. 310 x row width 80 x 25 cm and 30 cm) in the 1st and 2nd seasons, respectively.2- Ear height (cm):
