Abstract In this work, steady state mathematical models for both simple and rigorous of Multistage Flash Brine Circulation (MSF-BC) desalination process are presented. The model is based on basic principles of physics and chemistry that describe the stages. It is based on the basic laws of mass balance, energy balance, the heat transfer mechanism, and the thermophysical properties variation of various fluids with temperature and salinity. The rigorous mathematical model was solved by two methods using MATLAB software; the first one is tri-diagonal matrix (TDM) and the second one is Orthogonal collocation. The market share of MSF is dropped from 62% of the total desalination industry to nearly 30% because of its energy intensive requirements. So, the integration of Parabolic Trough Solar Collector with MSF desalination is progressively attractive. The study presented an economic evaluation for providing feasibility and reliability conception to solve the energy problem. Using parabolic trough collectors with MSF-BC desalination will be economic in case the plant driven by fuel rather than natural gas. |
