Abstract Reasons For selecting The Study: The choice of Richard Eberhart specifically as the subject of this study is prompted by the fact that there are very rare and limited analyses of his poetry. A computer search has shown a lack of critical material about the poet’s life or volumes. Aims Of The Study: 1. Investigating modernist elements in Eberhart’s Poetry. 2. Proving that Richard Eberhart was a romantic poet and that this did not interfere with him being a modernist. 3. Examining the main techniques that were employed by Richard Eberhart 4. Contents Of The Study: The study was divided into five chapters proceeded by an introduction. The first chapter is entitled “Modernism and Richard Eberhart as a Modernist Poet” investigates the definition of modernism in general and in Eberhart’s poetry in particular and how he viewed modernism in his poetry. The second chapter is entitled” “The Romantic Note in a Bravery of Earth” investigates the notion of Romanticism and how the poet employed features of romanticism in his poetry without interfering with him being a modernist at all. The third chapter is entitled “Mysticism in Reading the Spirit” investigates the term “mysticism” and how the poet viewed the relation between man and God in a modernist manner. The fourth chapter is entitled “Humanism, Morality and Mortality in Undercliff” examines the three concepts in Eberhart’s poetry and how he managed to view such philosophical concepts in a modernist and accessible way that modern readers can relate to. The fifth chapter is entitled “The Techniques employed in Eberhart’s poetry” examines the main techniques on which the poet relied in his poetry such as irony, dramatic monologue, symbolism, stream of consciousness and myth |
