Abstract

Air cooled heat exchangers (ACHEs) belong to that type of heat exchanger in which air is used as a cooling medium for liquids and vapors, commonly used where there is shortage of water or in other cases when entire water supply is being utilized for heat exchange and still further coolant is required. Thus employing air cooled heat exchangers enables to get rid of extensive water treatment techniques and cooling water circuit. This report will discuss some topics concerned with an air cooled heat exchanger in four chapters. Chapter one discusses introduction, advantages, disadvantages, different classification such as configuration or draft classification and special applications such as recirculation air-cooled heat exchangers. Chapter two discusses the construction features of ACHES such as Tube bundle,Bare tube surface, Finned surface, Bay or (section), Unit, Bank and Main Components of Air Cooled Heat Exchanger Chapter three discuss ACHE problems such as Fouling a, Corrosion, Methods of protection from corrosion ,operation and maintenance, Problems on the tube side such as Process Flow Distribution and Mechanical Maintenance such as Fans,Fan Drives and Tube side Access. Chapter four contains design case study for kerosene liquid using manual solution and compare the final results for width, length and height with grid design mode of (HTRI) computer program.
