Abstract

Bovine respiratory disease complex is the most common and costly disease of cattle causing economic loss in the cattle industry every year.
The study was designed to investigate the infection and evaluate the molecular technique for detection of IBR virus plus identification of associated bacteria in some areas in El-Behera and Alexandria governorate.
In this study, 3230 animals were clinically examined because they had respiratory disease complex problems. The clinical signs observed in the diseased animals are summarized at Table (7) which includes; depression (62. 31%) fever (22.97%) nasal discharges (23.27%) lacrimal discharges (20.29%) pink eye (7.62%) coughing (34.6%) and oral discharges (35.22%).
The total prevalence rate of respiratory disease complex recorded in this study was 30.1% (where 971 animals out of 3230 animals were suffering from respiratory signs).
In our study PCR technique was used to detect B1 gene and C1 gene of IBR virus.
Conventional PCR used for detection of IBR virus indicate presence of IBR from collected samples.
Identification of bacteria associated with bovine respiratory disease complex from 140 samples revealed that 7.1% Pasteurella multocida, 10% Mannheimia haemolytica, 5.7% Actinomyces pyogenes, 20.7% Staphylococcus aureus, 18.6% Escherichia coli, 15% Histophilus somni, 14.3% Streptococcus pneumoniae, 4.3% Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Antimicrobial sensitivity of 50 samples showed highly sensitivity of Cefquinome ,Lincomycin plus spectinomycin ,Cefotaxime and marbofloxacine.
Marbofloxacine plus ceftiofur crystalline free acid, Levofloxacine and Danofloxacine gave excellent results in treating calves suffering from respiratory signs.
