Abstract

Background: Low 25(OH)D is considered to play an important role in the development of cardiovascular diseases, metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes mellitus, inflammatory and immune abnormalities, and sleep disorders. NE is a nighttime bedwetting (≥2times per week) in children five years of age or older.
Objective: To investigate whether there is any relationship between 25 hydroxy Vitamin D and nocturnal enuresis in comparison to normal population.
Subjects and Methods: We conducted this study on 80 children fulfilling the inclusion criteria classified in to two groups: Group1: 40 enuretic children, their ages ranged from 5-15 years old. Group2: 40 healthy, age and sex matched children as control group. All patients and controls were subjected to full history, clinical examination, body measurements, face to face questionnaire and serum vitamin D level by Elisa technique.
Results: We found that 75.5% of cases in the NE group had low Vit. D level (<20ng/ml) compared with 60% in the control group but this difference is not statistically significant and this is may be due to a small sample. In the current study, there was no significant difference between the cases and controls as regards low birth weight, family history, frequency of night-time bed wetting.
Conclusion: There was low serum vitamin D in most population included but, there is no significant relation between NE and vitamin D defiency.
