Abstract

This study evaluated the influence of various surface treatments to fibre posts on the microtensile bond strength with different composite resins.
A total of 70 glass fiber posts were used in this study randomly divided into five groups, according to the surface pre-treatment performed. After treatment, two posts were randomly selected from each group to evaluate the morphological aspect of the post surface with scanning electron microscopy.
The remaining posts in each group were divided into four subgroups of three posts each, which differed in the type of composite resin used for the core build-up.
Microtensile bond strength test was performed for the treated samples.
Post-core strength was calculated and the differences among experimental groups were analysed with one and two-way anova and the Tukey test (α = 0.05).
Data were collected, tabulated and statistically analyzed with the following conclusions:
1- The use of combination of silane and application of bonding agent for the post surface is preferred
2- The use of dual-cure flowable composite as core build up material is more effective than hybrid composite.
3- Both surface treatment and type of core materials affect bond strength between fiber post and core.
Clinical recommendations:
Fiber posts treated by silane for 60 sec and application of bonding agent is recommended for good retention and adaptation with composite core.
The use of dual cure flowable composite is recommended for good bond strength with fiber posts.
