Abstract

from the present study we can concluded that. The use of origanum majorana and Rosemarinus officinalis ethanol extracts decreased ammonia level and improved liver and kidney functions via reducing oxidative stress and improving the antioxidant defense mechanisms that have anti-stress effect through the reduction of cortisol and increasing growth hormone levels. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study of origanum majorana l ethanol extract against ammonia intoxication induced by NH4CL in rabbits and confirmed the potent anti-hyperammonemic effect and hepato-renal protection.
The hepatoprotective effect of O. majorana may be attributed to the antioxidant potential of the extract that reduced lipid peroxidation and improved antioxidant defense system in hepatocytes. The results also indicated that marjoram could be used as a therapeutic option in hepatic and renal injuries and could be used in combination with anti-hyperammonemic drugs.
Finally, the result obtained from this study indicated the effectiveness of origanum majorana and Rosemarinus officinalis combinations and provided a novel therapeutic strategy against ammonia intoxication in rabbits.
