Abstract This research is concerned with the study of water desalination by membrane distillation method using solar energy. The experimental studies were conducted on a pilot plant including two AGMD modules. The effects of operating conditions and heat recovery were studied on the productivity under steady-state conditions. Solar experiments were conducted to determine the performance during daytime in summer months. The results revealed that, in comparison with the base test case, using single and double heat recovery configurations increased the productivity by about 58% and 68%, respectively. An economic study was conducted to estimate the water production cost to be about 60 $/m3. |
