Abstract

At the inception of laparoscopic surgery, cirrhosis was listed either as an absolute or a relative contraindication. However with increased experience with laparoscopy, several studies across the world have demonstrated that LC is safe and effective with fewer complications compared to OC.
Laparoscopic operations require insufflation of the abdominal cavity PP to achieve adequate surgical exposure for instrumentation and surgical maneuvers.CO2 gas is the most commonly used.
Intra peritoneal pressures during PP are higher (14 mm Hg) than the normal pressure in the hepatic portal system (7–10 mm Hg) and may, therefore, cause changes in liver portal blood flow and, consequently, hepatic function.
