Abstract

The field experiments were carried out at Gemmeiza Agricultural Research Station, during two successive summer seasons of 1998 and 1999, using Nicola cultivar.
The aim of this experiments was to study the effect of three nitrogen forms (ammonium sulphate, ammonium nitrate, and urea) and nitrogen rate (140,
180, 220 and 260 Kg N/fed).
Results of this study indicated that:
I. Increasing the rate of nitrogen application increased vegetative growth character viz. fresh and dry weight per plant, stem length, number of branches, number of tubers and weight of tuber per plant as well as chlorophyll a, b of leaves. Application of nitrogen as ammonium sulphate was surpassed these, characters growth than the other forms in the study.
2. The total yield was increased gradually with increasing nitrogen doses. Whereas, marketable tuber increase noticed beyond 180 Kg nitrogen per feddan. While, non-marketable tuber increased with increasing nitrogen rates. The higher marketable tuber yield obtained by using ammonium nitrate.
