Abstract

Visual vertigo (VV) is a common complaint in patients with chronic vestibular dysfunction. It reflects dizziness induced by complex visual stimulation (Bronstein, 2005). Conventional vestibular tests are usually ineffective in diagnosing VV (Kamal et al., 2017). Due to lack of investigation tools, the 19-items situational characteristic questionnaire (SCQ) was developed. It is the gold standard and easy method to diagnose and assess the severity of VV symptoms rather than the expensive and cumbersome laboratory methods as posturography (Pavlou et al., 2006). This helps in achieving effective management programme (Zhao et al.,2011).
The aim of the current study was to develop and validate a cross-culturally adapted Arabic version of the SCQ. The English version of the SCQ was translated according to the cross-cultural adaptation guidelines. Some modifications were done to meet the Egyptian culture. The questionnaire was completed by 100 normal controls (control group) and 100 patients with VV symptoms (VV group) who were diagnosed according to the modified Arabic visual vestibular mismatch (VVM) questionnaire by.
