Abstract Most maternity nurses have inadequate knowledge about cord blood banking, so studies reported that nurses indicated desire for more information on cord blood banking and donation, also studies reported that nurses had not received recent formal education on cord blood collection, storage options and transplantation. The present study aimed The aim of this study to evaluate the effect of guideline on maternity nurses’ knowledge and attitude regarding cord blood banking and its barriers. The study was conducted at Minia university hospital & general Minia hospital after receiving their consent for participation Research design: A quasi experimental research design was utilized to fulfill the aim of this study. Subjects: The subjects of this study comprised 78 nurses, classified into 60 nurses who were working at Obstetric, Gynecological and Child Minia University Hospital; and 18 nurses who were working in Minia General Hospital. Method of data collection was structured self-administrative questionnaire was developed by researcher to fully meet demand of research, after development of questionnaire then revised by panel of obstetrical and gynecological experts in nursing staff and then translated into Arabic language. o The main findings of this study were:- • In general, majority of sample in pretest have inadequate knowledge, while minority have adequate knowledge, by comparison with posttest it was founded that majority of sample have adequate knowledge. • Regarding nurses attitude about cord blood banking it was observed that more than third of sample have negative attitude in pretest, while near three quarter of sample have positive attitude in posttest • Regarding need for information about cord blood collection and banking it was observed that majority of sample need for educational programme about benefits, types of banking and procedure of cord blood collection and banking. • Regarding advantages and disadvantages of cord blood it was observed that near quarter of sample didn’t know advantages in pretest while majority of sample in posttest identified advantages. Regarding knowledge about disease that treated with cord blood it was observed that near half of sample didn’t know. • It was founded that significance differences between level of knowledge and educational level, and significance difference between attitude and years of experience • It was observed that positive statistically significance correlation between knowledge and attitude at different times of assessment. |
