Abstract The purpose of this study is to assess the effect of early pelvic floor muscle exercise on postpartum sexual function. The study was carried out at the outpatient clinic of the department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Suez Canal University Hospital on 120 women at 4th postpartum month during the period from January 2015 to December 2015. The study was a prospective randomized controlled clinical trial evaluate the effect of early pelvic floor muscle training after childbirth on sexual function. Patients and methods: 120 Patients were randomly distributed according to computer generated randomization sheet into two equal groups: Study Group: (group A) 60 patients: each patient instructed in pelvic floor muscle training till the end of 7th postpartum month. Control Group: (group B) 60 patients: patients were not instructed in pelvic floor muscle training. All patients were subjected to full history taking with special regards to mode of vaginal delivery whether done with episiotomy or not. The FSFI questionnaire was used as a tool to investigate sexual function, it included 6 domains namely desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction and pain constituting a validated 19 principal component. Each domain is scored on a scale of 0-6, with higher scores (FSFI ≥ 26.5) indicating good function and lower scores indicating poor function (FSFI < 26.5). Also the Modified Oxford Grading Scale (MOGS) was used to assess the PFM strength. |
