Abstract Mycosis fungoides is the commonest variant of primary CTCL and is generally associated with an indolent clinical course. The classical type of MF has 4 stages; patch, plaque, tumor and erythroderma. It is a neoplasia of lymphocytes, generally of the CD4+ phenotype, and a cytokine production pattern with Th2 profile. MF characterized by proliferation of small to medium T- lymphocytes with cerebriform nuclei. In early disease stages, which can last for several years, MF presents as flat erythematous skin patches resembling benign inflammatory dermatoses such as allergic contact dermatitis, eczema or psoriasis; whereas in the later stages, MF gradually forms plaques or tumors, and may disseminate to lymph nodes and internal organs. The cancerous cells in some patients may appear in peripheral blood, a hallmark of the leukemic stage of CTCL.Podoplanin is a monoclonal antibody D2-40.It is a mucin-type transmembrane glycoprotein that has been implicated in various cellular processes. It is involved in the processes of adhesion and migration of endothelial cells, and its expression is observed on lymphatic endothelium. In human cancers podoplanin expression was found to be up-regulated, including SCC of different organs, mesotheliomas, certain germ cell tumors, and tumors of the CNS. |
