Abstract One hundred and twenty samples from: (cattle surface swabs, abattoir floor swabs, abattoir wall swabs, knives swabs, worker’s hand swabs, abattoir water) were collected from Zagazig and Hehia abattoirs, Sharkia Proviance, Egypt. The samples represented by (carcass surface, abattoir floors, abattoir walls, knives, workers hand swabs and inlet water) 20 of each (10 from each abattoir). The samples were bacteriologically examined. The aerobic plate count (APC) on cattle surface swabs ranged from 4 × 103 to 6.3 × 105 with a mean value of 3.18 × 105 ± 0.92 × 105 CFU/cm2 in Zagazig abattoir. Meanwhile, the count ranged from 2.2 × 104 to 2.8 × 105 with a mean value of 1.3 × 105 ± 0.34 × 105 CFU/cm2 in Hehia abattoir. The Enterobacteriaceae detected in 100% of examined cattle surface swabs and counts ranged from 0.4 × 102 to 3.3 × 103 with a mean value of 1.6× 103 ± 3 × 102 CFU/cm2 in Zagazig abattoir. Meanwhile, the count ranged from 4.2 × 102 to 8.5 × 102 with a mean value of 6.25× 102 ± 1.7 × 102 CFU/cm2 in Hehia abattoir. Esherchia coli was detected in 60% and 80% of cattle surfaces swabs from Zagazig and Hehia abattoirs with mean values of 0.37× 102 ± 0.028 × 102 and 0.22× 102 ± 0.026 × 102 CFU/cm2,respectively. The aerobic plate count (APC) on floor swabs ranged from 7.8 × 104 to 9.2 × 106 with a mean value of 2.3× 106 ± 1.02 × 106 CFU/cm2 in Zagazig abattoir. Meanwhile, the count ranged from 5.7 × 104 to 6.3 × 106 with a mean value of 1.14× 106 ± 0.56 × 106 CFU/cm2 in Hehia abattoir. The Enterobacteriaceae detected. |
