Abstract

The study was designed to compare the outcomes of open heart surgery patients treated using oxygen delivery devices with patients who receive NIV as a first-line therapy for hypoxemic respiratory failure.this study was conducted on 40 patients submitted to open heart surgery : Their ages ranged between 18 and 60 year and mean age was± 5.998 year ,male represented 57.5% (n=23 out of 40 ), while female represented 42.5 % (n =17 out of 40 ).All patients undergo Full history taking including age, gender , BMI, onset of cardiac disease and history of any respiratory disease, Clinical, radiological, and biological parameters at onset of admission With An emphasis on: heart rate, systolic blood pressure , respiratory rate , body temperature , bilateral lung infiltrates on chest X-ray , Arterial blood gases (arterial pH , sodium bicarbonate , pcO2 , SpO2 and PaO2-to-FiO2 ratio).Patients were classified into two groups 20 patients with acute hypoxemic respiratory failure treated with oxygen through venturi mask and 20 patients also with acute hypoxemic respiratory failure treated with noninvasive ventilation through CPAP mask.Blood pressure, heart rate and respiratory rate were high during hypoxia with a significant decrease in Mean Heart rate, Respiratory rate, and Systolic and Diastolic blood pressure after treatment with CPAP and Venturi masks.
