Abstract The aim of this study is to assess the frequency of IDA and associated socio-demographic and nutritional factors among infants and young children (0 –6 years of age) of maternal and child care centers, port said governorate, Egypt. Also, research for other important/new biochemical indicators for in-depth study of IDA will be in the scope of this investigation. In the end of the present study, some recommendations could be supplied as follow: 1. IDA must always be taken into consideration for they have a clear impact on the patient’s quality of life and they can be the consequence of severe diseases. 2. The high frequency of IDA is a severe public health problem in developing countries such Egypt, especially in children from rural areas, those from low social class and those of low maternal educational level. 3. Iron-rich foods should be advised by health care providers to all infants from 6 months to 6 years. 4. Emphasis should be placed on infants/children mothers since they were particularly at risk. Health professionals must pay more attention to teach mothers good long-term dietary habits as a part of an overall approach to health promotion. 5. Further study is recommended including other important indicators as GSA levels, enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants for in-depth study of IDA and for better management. |
