Abstract In geotechnical engineering, the bearing capacity and settlement are two main criteria that control the design and performance of footings. The construction of structures on soft clay soil usually involves excessive settlement or stability problems because of its low shear strength and high compressibility. Thus, many challenges are expected to occur related to soft clay layer, especially, if this layer extends to deep level below foundation level. |
