Abstract

The present study demonstrates that real time ultrasound guided TAP block provides additional benefit to multimodal analgesia in children undergoing laparotomy with supra-umbilical incision or incision extending supra- umbilical. The patients who received TAP block required less intraoperative analgesic requirements, as well as postoperative rescue analgesia. SubcostalTAP block was more effective than posterior TAP block in case of midline incision.
Posterior TAP block and subcostal TAP block under ultrasound guidance proved to be safe with no recorded complications either intra or postoperatively. Patient and parent satisfaction was markedly observed in case of TAP block.
