Abstract Summary and Conclusion Multiple scelorasis(MS) is a chronic disease of the central nervous system with disseminated inflammatory demyelinating lesions and axonal loss leading to multifocal signs of neurological deficit. Sleep disorders are pervasive in patients with MS although clinically under recognised by most physicions .Sleep disturbances reported by 24-50% of MS patients. Circadian rhythm disorders with compromised melatonin secretion, reduced input to the suprachiasmatic nucleus as well as increased level of proinflammatory cytokines have been suggested as possible pathomechanisms shared by MS and sleep disturbances . The current study was a controlled one that was conducted on 40 subjects aged from 20 to 40 years old of both genders ,Patient group Including 20 patients with newly diagnosed Multiple Sclerosis according to the revised Mc Donald criteria 2010. With exclusion of Medicated MS patients. - Presence of any organic co-morbidity eg.(DM.hypertension) -Presence of any psychatric co-morbidity eg.(depression, anxiety) - Patients receive any drugs affecting sleep. - Patients with work shift. - Patients with past history of primery sleep disorders. For MS patient, the following were done. - Thorough history taking, medical, neurological and psychiatric assessment. - Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain |
