Abstract

Produced water is the largest waste stream generated in oil and gas industries. Due to the increasing volume of waste all over the world in the current decade, the outcome and effect of discharging produced water on the environment has lately become a significant issue of environmental concern. Because of the large volumes involved, management of produced water presents important costs to the industry. This research describes the broad range of options that may be used to manage produced water. In some situations, technologies can be employed to reduce the volume of water that is reached the well bore like chemical shut-off techniques or arrived to the surface using mechanical shut-off technique or downhole separator. In other situations (primarily at onshore wells), produced water can be treated by chemical treatment or biological treatment using wetland and then reused for various purposes like injection for enhanced recovery. Produced water can be disposed using discharge, injection, removal to an offsite disposal facility, and evaporation. This study tried to illustrate and evaluate the most used water management techniques by applying it in one of oil & gas field located in Western Desert (WD)/Egypt. The selected technologies in this study were firstly water minimizing techniques which is consists of three applications made in three different wells (Well#1, Well#2 and Well#3) and water recycling and.
