Abstract

The present work studies the effect of TiO2 and Sb2O3 with PbO on the structure and physical properties of 50PbO∙xTiO2∙(50 – x)B2O3∙0.5CuO, xSb2O3∙(40 – x)PbO∙60B2O3∙0.5CuO and xSb2O3∙40PbO∙(60 – x)B2O3∙0.5CuO glasses. On the other hand, the ability for crystallization has been tested for selected samples of the last two types of glass. In addition, crystallization of the glass 50PbO∙25TiO2∙25B2O3∙0.5CuO has been extensively studied. X-ray diffraction and infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopies have been employed to explore the structure of the studied glasses. In addition to, the density measurement have been used to correlate the structural changes with the obtained physical properties from the obtained results it was found that : First : The Contribution each oxide to N4 could be determined in each studied glasses. The negative contribution from TiO2 and Sb2O3 to N4 is due to association of these oxides with PbO rather than B2O3. Second : The tendency for the crystallization of these studied glasses, by heat treatment processes, increases with decreasing B2O3 content
