Development of science curricula for preparatory stage according to Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), And its effectiveness in the development of Higher order thinking skills Dissertation Abstract The current study aims at developing Science Curricula for Preparatory Stage in the light of the Next Generation of Science Standards (NGSS) and its effectiveness in the development of higher-order thinking skills of the 2nd preparatory school students through using the Quasi-experimental design and descriptive design. The researcher has developed a list of the standards and dimensions of the next generation of science. The science curricula of preparatory stage has been analyzed in the light of content analysis list and a suggested perspective has been prepared. The researcher, also, has prepared a teacher’s guide, an activity book, an achievement test and higher-order thinking skills test. A unit entitled “Strength and Movement” has been chosen from the Second Term of the suggested curriculum of 2nd year preparatory in the light of the standards of the next generation of science. The test was implemented on a group of 33 students in Mohammed Yahia Tohfa Preparatory School, Talkha directorate, Dakahlya Governorate. The achievement test and the higher-order thinking test have been implemented to compare between the pre and post implementation of the test. The
results of the study are as follows: 1)There is a statistically significant difference at (a=0.05) between the mean scores of the group on application of the achievement test in favor of the post application. 2)There is a statistically significant difference at (a=0.05) between the mean scores of the group on application of the Higher order Thinking skills test in favor of the post application.3)The effectiveness of the developed curriculum in the development of achievement and higher-order thinking skills.
