Abstract The present work is a hospital based descriptive study, conducted on 1204 clinical samples collected from 928 nosocomially infected patients hospitalized in ICUs and 625 environmental samples collected from ICUs of Assiut University Hospitals The present study was conducted to determine the prevalence of nosocomial infection with Acinetobacter spp. in different ICUs of Assiut University Hospitals, their antimicrobial susceptibility profile and the distribution of OXA and MβL genes of carbapenem resistance in Acinetobacter isolates, detect the production of OXAs and MβLs in Acinetobacter isolates by different phenotypic methods and evaluate these phenotypic methods compared to molecular detection of the corresponding genes by PCR.
