Abstract Non melanoma skin cancers represent the most common malignant neoplasm of the skin. SCC is an aggressive tumor that usually metastasizes to the regional lymph nodes while BCC is characterized by local invasion and rare metastatic potentials. SK is the most common benign skin tumor that usually treated for cosmotic reasons only. Podoplanin is a transmembrane glycoprotein expressed in a variety of human cell types including basal keratinocytes. It is widely used to highlight lymphatics in normal and cancerous tissues, as well as to detect cancer cell lymphatic invasion. Podoplanin may regulate tumor progression and metastasis through various mechanisms. |
