Abstract 76 Summary Inguinal hernia management is among the most common surgical techniques in infants and children with a reported incidence range from 1 to 5 %. Open herniotomy stands for decades as the golden treatment method for pediatric inguinal hernia. Laparoscopy is gaining popularity nowadays in the management of pediatric hernia. A lot of laparoscopic techniques were described to repair inguinal hernia in infants and children. The objective of this study is to compare between laparoscopic assisted hernia repair with open conventional hernia repair as regards to operative time, contralateral patency, postoperative hydrocele formation, recurrence rate, iatrogenic ascent of the testis and testicular atrophy. 80 child were randomized into 2 equal groups (n = 40). group A was subjected to laparoscopic assisted (needlescopic) hernia repair. group B was subjected to open conventional hernia repair. Inclusion criteria include; age less than twelve years, non-complicated and non-recurrent hernia. Exclusion criteria include; hernia with undescended testis, recurrent inguinal hernia, previous major lower abdominal surgery, parental refusal and complicated hernia. There were no significant differences between the two groups regarding operative time. While according to the gender |
