Abstract

Background: Because of their anatomy, the adrenal glands are, in surgical terms, relatively inaccessible. For that reason a variety of surgical approaches have been employed over the years when open operation on the glands has been practiced. These include the anterior, trans peritoneal approach using a sub costal incision, KEHR incision, midline incision, the posterior, retroperitoneal approach with the patient fully prone and the postero-lateral approach through the bed of the 11th or 12th rib, again utilizing an extra peritoneal route to the adrenal glands . All of these procedures represent major surgery through large incisions and are associated with significant pain and postoperative morbidity. Against this background, laparoscopic adrenalectomy represents an attractive option for both patient and surgeon with its reduced invasiveness but without compromise of the ability to visualize and resects the adrenal glands.
Methods: This is prospective comparative study done on 20 patients with functional adrenal tumors represented to outpatient clinic of Menoufia University Hospital during the period from (January 2014) to (January 2017) , they are divided into two groups group A: laparoscopic Adrenalectomy . group B: Open Adrenalectomy.
Result: adrenalectomy in functional adrenal tumors can be performed by Lap safely with short hospital stay , few complications and minimally invasive procedures .
