Abstract

The present study was conducted to compare clinically between the effect of autologous blood injection and platelet rich plasma injection in treatment of bilateral chronic recurrent TMJ dislocation.
Twenty patients suffering from pain, excessive range of jaw movement, and recurrent episodes of joint dislocation were selected for the study.
For each patient, clinical examination and radiographic evaluation by CBCT were performed at the beginning of treatment. The patients were subdivided into two groups:
• group I: included ten patients who were treated by injection of autologous blood; 2ml into the superior joint cavity and 1 ml into the pericapsular tissues of the TMJ.
• group II: included ten patients who were treated by injection of PRP; 2ml into the superior joint cavity and 1 ml into the pericapsular tissues of the TMJ.
The patients were then evaluated clinically for 2 weeks, 1 month and 3 months postoperatively and the collected data was statistically analyzed.
Clinical results
Clinical evaluation was performed for the patients at 2 weeks, 1 month, and 3 months post-operatively. The following parameters were used for evaluation of the patient: pain intensity, maximal interincisal opening, lateral movements, protrusive movements, and regional tenderness.
All clinical parameters in both groups were statistically significant when compared to the pre-operative values within the same group at all stages of follow up period.
Comparing the two studied groups, differences in all parameters were statistically insignificant at all stages of the follow up period
