Abstract

Study Objectives:
The current study aimed at identifying the effect of using a visual literacy multimedia based program on primary five experimental language school children acquisition, and use, of storytelling skills and sub-skills. To be more specific, the present study aimed at identifying the effect of using a visual literacy multimedia based program on primary five experimental language school children acquisition, and use, of:
1. sense of story.
2. story grammar.
3. skills of delivering a story.
4.narrative organization skills.
Findings:
Analyzing the obtained data, the researcher found that the visual literacy multimedia based program has a statistically significantly positive effect on primary five experimental language school children’s storytelling skills and sub-skills. Besides, the animated wordless picture book has a more statistically significantly positive effect on developing storytelling skills than the non-animated wordless picture book.
5.10. Recommendations:
• Introducing storytelling skills in primary school level is preferable as they help children develop a wide range of skills including: listening comprehension, speaking and critical thinking skills.
• Storytelling can reveal children hidden talents whether in writing, performing or graphic designing. So, it is recommended for any stage of learning.
• Storytelling can motivate primary school children, and encourage reluctant ones, to listen, speak, read and write more English. So, storytelling activities can be included in EFL syllabuses.
• Storytelling is recommended as a supplementary EFL course, especially at the primary stage level.
• Multimedia storytelling can be used to enable teachers to increase understanding of new content, and enhance children’s motivation while working collaboratively in classrooms.
• Because multimedia storytelling can help teachers and children apply technology both in and out of the classroom, they must be introduced in teaching.
• Storytelling training courses can be provided for teachers, especially at the primary stage level, in order to make EFL more authentic and enjoyable.
