Abstract

Our study showed that Renal artery resistive index in chronic kidney disease and nephrotic syndrome patients was significantly higher than the control group, and it correlated positively with estimated glomerulofilteration rate (eGFR) , albuminuria. On the other side, there were no correlation between renal artery resistive index and kidney length nor width. So we can conclude that increased RI could be a marker of vasculointerstitial lesions that may precede the clinical detection of renal dysfunction, and depletion of kidney function in other words renal artery resistive index could be a noninvasive marker of renal histological damage and a prognostic indicator. Furthermore, our study showed that elevated renal artery resistive index was observed in the steroid dependent and steroid resistant patients when compared to steroid sensitive patients and thus may participate in the therapeutic strategy in nephrotic syndrome patients.
