Abstract

Regenerative endodontics is a promising alternative treatment for teeth with open apices and necrotic pulps. The present study was performed to evaluate clinically and radiographically maturogenesis of necrotic immature teeth using platelets rich plasma (PRP) compared to blood clot as a scaffold.
Immature necrotic permanent maxillary central incisors (n = 20) of medically free patients 9-20years old were used to perform regenerative endodontic procedures (revascularization) and divided into 2 groups: Blood clot group (control group) and PRP group (experimental group). Follow-up was done at 6 and 12 months intervals and included clinical examination for signs and symptoms and radiographic evaluation for change in root length, root canal diameter and in its apical diameter.
The results showed that:-
- Both PRP and blood clot groups did not exhibited any signs and symptoms clinically.
- Discoloration of the teeth was seen in both groups.
- Radiographically, there was a progressive increase in the root length, decrease in root canals diameter and decrease in their apical diameter in both groups. However, PRP group revealed significantly higher results than blood clot group.
