Abstract

Environmental pollution especially by insecticides which
used in agriculture and industry is increasing with the days.
Chlorpyrifos is organophosphorous insecticide and one of the
most used insecticides in Egypt. Cypermethrin is synthetic
pyrethroids insecticides and fish absorbed it from water through
gills even present in very low concentration.
A total number of 400 apparently healthy a live O. niloticus
with an average body weight (25±0.5 g) obtained from Abbassa
fish hatcheries at Sharkia province were used in 2 experiments.
First experiment, a total number of 100 fish were used for studying
the subacute effect of exposure of O. niloticus to chlorpyrifos
and cypermethrin insecticides at concentration 1/2 and 1/3 96 hrs
LC50 on health condition, were divided into 5 equal groups. The
group 1 was kept as control. The groups 2 and 3 were exposed to
1/2 and 1/3 96 hrs LC50 of chlorpyrifos, respectively. The groups 4
and 5 were exposed to 1/2 and 1/3 96 hrs LC50 of cypermethrin,
respectively. Second experiment, 300 fish were used for studying
effect of chronic toxicity (1/10 and 1/20 96 hrs LC50) of
chlorpyrifos and cypermethrin insecticides with or without
lycopene or PPE supplementation on health condition and
growth of O. niloticus, were distributed into 15 equal groups (1,
2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15). The first group
was kept as control. Groups 4, 8 and 12 were exposed to 1/10
(2.64 μg/L) 96 hrs LC50 of chlorpyrifos. Groups 5, 9 and 13 were
exposed to 1/20 (1.32 μg/L) 96 hrs LC50 of chlorpyrifos. Groups.
