Abstract

Thyroid disease is a common endocrine disease with important effects on the cardiovascular system, as changes in the thyroid function result in significant alteration in cardiac hemodynamics, even if subclinical.Coronary artery disease is considered an insidious and dangerous disease and one of the major causes of morbidity and mortality in the developed world.Coronary collaterals, or “natural bypasses” are anastomotic connections without an intervening capillary bed between portions of the same coronary artery and between different coronary arteries.Collateral circulation potentially offers an important alternative source of blood supply when the original vessel fails to provide sufficient blood. Timely enlargement of collaterals may help to avoid transmural myocardial infarction and death in symptomatic patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) level in chronic stable angina patients and its effect on coronary collateral circulation. The present study was conducted in cardiology department, faculty of medicine, Tanta university hospital during the period from January 2017 to January 2018 on 100 patients with stable coronary artery disease who underwent coronary angiography and documented total occlusion in one or more of the major coronary arteries.
