Abstract

Introduction: Sepsis is considered one of the most common causes of admission in ICUs all over the world. Patients admitted to ICU with Sepsis have a very bad prognosis with high mortality rates which range from 20.7% with severe sepsis and up to 45.7% if associated with septic shock The aim of work To explore the knowledge, attitude and practice of infection control measures in Medical ICU staff including physicians, nurses and workers in Mansoura University Hospitals,to plan a program to improve outcome of medical critical care unit (MCCU) patients in Mansoura University Hospital by modifying the rule of health care workers (HCWs) toward the infection control guidelines. Research Plan: We conducted our study on 258 Health care worker (HCWs): representing doctors (100), nurses (88), non-medical health care workers (70) at Mansoura University hospital intensive care units (ICUS). Structure interview questionnaire to assess the knowledge, Attitude and practice of HCWs towards infection control. Three designs of questionnaires were prepared; one for doctors and one for nurses only little differences were present in their questionnaire because of their quite like responsibilities and work environment, the third one was prepared for non -medical health care worker. Results Poor knowledge, poor practice and good attitude characterizes our doctors. Better knowledge, better practice and good attitude characterizes our nurses. Good knowledge, good practice and good attitude characterizes our non medical HCWS. Conclusion: we have deficiency in infection control practice in our ICUs. This can be due to Lack of continuous education, training and supervision of infection control guidelines
