Abstract The aim of this study was to assess the level of stress and identify the coping patterns among parents having children with ADHD. Subject and Methods:This study was exploratory descriptive. A convenient sample selected and this study performed on one hundred parents having children with ADHD; the sample consistedof the male and female parents.Setting: atchild psychiatric outpatient of Abbassia hospital for psychiatric and mental health. Tools: Three tools were used; first tool, child’s and parent’s socio-demographic data, second tool, Parental stress scale to assess level of stress among parents having children with ADHD, and the third tool, Patterns of coping Questionnaireto assess coping patterns among parents. Results: the main findings of this study revealed that the majority of parents having children with ADHD had high level of stressandmost frequent coping patterns were Patterns of seek support such as ”religion and social support” followed by pattern of effective adaptation such as” acceptance, self control, problem-focused coping, and re-interpretation positive ”and the least one wasavoidance adaptationsuch as” denial, self criticism, self isolation, mental and behavioral disengagement”.Conclusion: that there was highly statistically significant relation between theparental stress and patterns of avoidance adaptation, (p<0, 001).Also there were no significant statistically relation between parental stress and Patterns of effective adaptation, Patterns of seek support.Recommendations:Counseling clinics for parents of ADHD children are needed to ensure an effective response to the needs of ADHD children and their families. Design a training Programs for parents of children with ADHD such as stress management technique methods, such as meditation, relaxation techniques, and exercise to increase their own tolerance for frustration and their patterns of coping.
