Abstract

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disorder of airway in which many cells and cellular elements play a role. The chronic inflammation is associated with airway hyperresponsiveness that leads to recurrent episodes of wheezing, breathlessness, chest tightness, and cough particularly at night and early morning Inclusion criteria: Age: 6-18 years old, Children with obese asthma phenotype Exclusion criteria: Any endocrinological disorder as hypothyroidism, diabetes and cushing disease. Study plan: Patients and control underwent the following: Pulmonary function test, Skin prick test, Total serum IgE, , Quantitative determination of urinary Leukotriene E4 levels by ELISA and Genetic analysis of (SNP LTC4S 444 A/ C and SNP CysLTR1 927 T/C). The result: The distribution of LTC4S (444 A/C) showed no significant differences in frequency of the allele or its genotype between studied groups. However AA genotype showed higher frequency in obese group, whereas A allele showed higher frequency in both obese asthmatic and obese group. Conclusions: Obese asthma phenotype as a clinical asthma phenotype showed a clear biomarker and genotype. Thus looking to endotypes and phenotypes of asthmatic patients could be a step for personalized medicine. Recommendation: The study to be applied on large number of patients.
