Abstract

This study demonstrated the utility of a comprehensive ultrasound modality to detect fetal anomalies and complications in diabetic pregnancy .
In diabetic pregnancy , the main goal in management is to maximize gestational age ,to optimize the timing of delivery with special concern to minimize fetal complications to get most benefits regarding fetal and maternal outcome.
Ultrasound is an easily available cost-effective, and noninvasive technique that can be applied in diabetic pregnancy to scan for any possible congenital malformations and to assess fetal growth pattern and any associated changes in amniotic fluid amount. With the use of US ,modulations and instituting early pharmacological therapy can be tailored to each pregnant patient affected by diabetes.
Doppler assessment of the maternal and fetal circulations in diabetic pregnancies plays a vital role to optimize the outcome. Doppler US is particularly important in monitoring SGA fetuses. Doppler investigation findings will be clinically useful mainly in diabetic pregnancies complicated by pre-eclampsia.
On the other hand ,Doppler evaluation provides no significant benefit in evaluation of LGA fetuses.
The use of US findings in pregnancy complicated with diabetes, can be applied to guide the clinicians in choosing a strategy that include increased fetal surveillance and planning delivery regarding time and modality for each specific case of diabetic pregnancy
