Abstract

In 1997 started the stages of reclamation the area of Toshka depending on the Nile waters upstream the High dam. The project was initially planned to take twenty years to construct, from 1997-2017. The initial phase of the south Valley project was supposed to divert about 5 Bcm/year of the stored water from the Lake Nasser reservoir to irrigate approximately 540,000 acres of virgin agricultural land. The main parts of the project is now completed specially the pump station at khorToshka, the main feeding canal and the main branches canals except branch No.(4) and other needed control and crossing structures. The stated goals of the project were to increase Egypt‘s arable land, to provide housing for 20% of the country‘s population, to reduce unemployment and to increase food production. Agricultural crops characterized by warm and dry climates, which helps to speed the maturity of the crops planted by other regions, which it provides an opportunity for the popularity of these crops globally. The main objective of the research is to estimate and assess the actual consumptive water use, the construction cost per feddan due to civil, mechanical, electrical costs includes construction, maintenance, and operation costs except branch no (4). Estimating return value in cases of cultivating 50,000, 100,000 and 300,000 feddan were also estimated.
