Abstract

This work was carried out in Al-Kurashia and Shabsher dairy farm, Production Sector, Agricultural Research Institute at Al-Gharbia Governorate on 170 apparently healthy American Holstein cows. Their age ranged from 2.5-6 years. The animals were divided into seven groups according to their treatment to determine milk keeping quality by applying different managemental practices as follow:-
Treatment I: Effect of grazing and housing on milk quality, Treatment II: Effect of fore stripping on milk quality, Treatment III: Effect of grooming time on milk quality, Treatment IV: Effect of season on milk quality, Treatment V: Effect of milking times/day on milk quality, Treatment VI: Effect of stage of lactation on milk quality and Treatment VII: Effect of hoof bathing on milk quality. The following results were obtained:
1. The grazing, fore-stripping and LGT cows had higher MY with lower SCC, TBC and CMT than ungrazed cows.
2. The season had a significant and considerable effect on MY, SCC, TBC and CMT. In spring the MY is the highest and TBC, SCC and CMT are the lowest while in summer the MY is the lowest and TBC, SCC and CMT are the highest value.
3. The 3 times milking per day had a higher MY and lower TBC, SCC and CMT than 2 times milking per day.
4. The stage of lactation had a significant and considerable effect on MY, SCC, TBC and CMT. in mid stage of lactation the MY was higher and TBC, SCC and CMT are lower than the first and late stages of lactation.
5. The hoof bathing before milking had a significant and considerable effect on MY, SCC, TBC and CMT. In case of hoof bathing the MY was higher and TBC, SCC and CMT are lower than the non-hoof bathing cows
