Abstract
Biodegradation of onion wastes under SSF conditions

was enhanced by the addition of”starter culture” obtained
from a previously fermented onion waste:- The possibility
of carrying SSF in a continuous culture in 50L fermenter
was examined.
The products of SSF of onion wastes was used in a
submerged fermentation for ethanol or SCP production.
Maximum amounts of ethanol or SCP were obtained after
24 and-48 h. respectively at 3rC and were increased by
supplementing the growth medium with ammonium
nitrate at a final concentration of 0.5% and 0.25%
respectively.
