medication at the start and the end of the internship year.
The list consists of 3 parts, the first one included demographic data, the second part
entails data related to
performance of vital signs measurement which contains 45
items, while the third part entails data related to performance of medication administration and
included 14 items.
Results:
This study has the following results:
• The majority of interns (92.3%) have completed their secondary school education before joining
the faculty.
• The majority of interns (80%) worked after joining the faculty while 32.7% of them worked
in the second year of scholar education.
• The frequency of performing basic nursing procedures is much higher during internship year than
the different scholar years.
• All the interns had adequate performance related to vital signs measurement at the end of the
internship year.
• Regarding performance of interns in measuring temperature, the main 3 items that got the highest
correct performance were wash hands before procedure, rinse, dry and immerse thermometer in alcohol
and record the reading in the patient’s chart (80%, 59.2%, 87.7%, respectively).
• There are highly statistically significant difference rn measuring pulse and respiration between
the start and the end of the internship year.
• 100% of the interns at the end of the internship year, can apply cuff over the upper ann, close
the value and deflate the cuff. Inadequacy of intern’s performance was found in items
related to administration of medication at the start of the
internship year but it increased and improved significantly
at the end of the internship year.
